About Kelly Nichols, OD, MPH, PhD

Dr. Nichols is an Associate Professor at the Ohio State University College of Optometry. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a residency in ocular disease and dry eye at Omni Eye Specialists of Colorado. She completed a Master's degree in Public Health and a PhD in Physiological Optics at The Ohio State University. She has current NIH funding (NIH R01 EY015519) to study dry eye in postmenopausal women in addition to many pharmaceutical and contact lens industry research projects. She also is part of a recently funded planning grant team (NIH R34EY017626, PI: P. Asbell) to plan a study to evaluate omega fatty acid supplementation in patients with dry eye. Dr. Nichols lectures and writes on dry eye, contact lenses, diabetes and public health, and women's health issues. Current research interests are cross disciplinary in nature and involve collaboration with the OSU Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Facility in the evaluation of tear film lipidomics and proteomics.
